Sterling Archer isn't calling it quits just yet. FXX has announced that Archer season 12 is officially a go. The animated comedy recently returned for season 11 and, so it would seem, things are still going quite well for the show more than a decade into its run. As such, the network decided to keep this train on the tracks at least a little bit longer.

Archer season 12 is expected to debut sometime in 2021. It will air on FX, FXX and Hulu the following day as part of the FX on Hulu program. There is no word yet on how many episodes the new season will consist of and plot details haven't been revealed at this time. Several seasons of the show diverged from the main plot, such as Dreamland, Danger Island and 1999. But with the main character no longer in a coma, it seems unlikely that viewers will be taking another trip so far off the beaten path. Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Entertainment, had this to say in a statement.

"'Archer' is back in a big way this season, with viewership up as the Emmy Award-winning spy series returns to its roots and begins to plot a 12th season next year. Our thanks to Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions for keeping 'Archer' as fun as ever and true to form. Together with its unbelievable voice cast, Archer is set to give fans another great season."

Per the network, Archer season 11 has averaged 2.4 million viewers per episode. That represents a 32 percent increase when compared to season 10. That indicates that the audience still has an appetite for the series. Beyond that, with live-action production remaining tricky at the moment over health and safety concerns, animation is very appealing for networks as it can be produced safely and remotely.

Archer season 11 picks up with Sterling Archer returning to the spy world after spending three years in a coma. Many things have changed in his absence but Archer is confident he can get things back to the way they used to be in no time. But everyone else has been doing quite well during his time away and may not be ready to do away with the well-oiled machine they've established. The cast is led by H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer. It also includes Aisha Tyler Lana Kane, Jessica Walter as Malory Archer, Judy Greer as Cheryl/Carol Tunt, Chris Parnell as Cyril Figgis, Amber Nash as Pam Poovey, Adam Reed as Ray Gillette and Lucky Yates as Algernop Krieger.

The series was created by Adam Reed and made its debut in 2009. To date, 116 episodes have been produced. It took home the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program in 2016. Archer season 11 is getting ready to come to a close, with episode seven airing this week and the season finale set for October 28. This news comes to us via Variety.
