Surprise, surprise! Archer season 11 is happening! This news came as part of the panel for the series at San Diego Comic-Con, and it comes as something of a shock. Creator Adam Reed made it seem previously like season 10, which is currently airing, would be the show's last. But that's not the case, as Sterling Archer will be back for at least one more go-around, and he's coming back in the flesh. That's right; Archer is finally coming out of his coma.

For the past three seasons, Archer has been in a coma, which has led to a few wild seasons that took place in the character's dream state. The past few years brought viewers Dreamland, Danger Island and the currently running 1999. But it's been revealed that the spy will be waking up at the end of season 10, only to find that the world has moved on without him. Executive producer Matt Thompson had this to say about what we can expect straight from Comic-Con.

"The main thing is Archer and how lost he is. He feels everyone has left him behind. The only person who seems to give a f*** is Pam, and she's like, "Hey, buddy, let's go get a drink, I still love you." But everybody else treats him like an afterthought, he's not what he was, and he's actually making them worse at their jobs. He's in the way. And that exploration of truly something different for Archer as a character is exciting for us. So it's about him, and how having him back in the group forces change upon all of them."

It was additionally revealed by producer Casey Willis and Matt Thompson that Archer will have to walk using a cane, which will be tricked-out with gadgets. They also made it clear that they're going back to the mission of the week style of things that viewers initially came to know. Also, they explained, had things gone another way, they may have done a zombie apocalypse season, or a King Arthur themed season.

Instead, it's back to basics. Adam Reed will be taking a step back, but he's still involved and is helping to map out the story for the new season. One burning question now is, will season 11 bring us the series finale? Or will Archer be here to stay? Matt Thompson had this to say.

"It's not our call, but the series feels re-energized by the stories Casey and I and Adam are floating around. It feels brand-new again to me. And if that feeling stays and we see a way to make season 12 and continue that interest, I don't see why not. I know all the cast is signed and extremely happy to be here... There are fans out there we've lost along the way. And I understand that, I don't watch shows in their 11th season. There's fatigue there. And what I want to say to those people is that we were fatigued too but now we're not, and to c'mon back, ya'll."

The cast for the series includes H. Jon Benjamin as the titular character, alongside Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Adam Reed and Lucky Yates. FXX has not yet set a premiere date for Archer season 11, but it's expected to debut in 2020. This news comes to us via Entertainment Weekly.
