Actress AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer) has signed on to star in The CW Network's pilot The Carrie Diaries, portraying a young Carrie Bradshaw.

The project is a prequel to HBO's successful series Sex and the City, which starred Sarah Jessica Parker as the adult Carrie Bradshaw. The pilot was written by Amy Harris, and is based on the novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell. The story will follow a teenage Carrie Bradshaw, who first begins to explore themes of friendship and sexuality as a Manhattan high school student in the 1980s. Stefania Owen has already been cast as Carrie's younger sister, Dorrit.

Amy Harris is executive producing The Carrie Diaries alongside Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Author Candace Bushnell and Len Goldstein are also serving as executive producers.

It isn't known when production will begin on The Carrie Diaries.
