Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, has announced that Andi Mack Season 3 is officially green lit. Along with the official announcement from the Disney Channel, cast members Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Lilan Bowden, Joshua Rush, Sofia Wylie, and Asher Angel revealed the news on ABC's Good Morning America today, which is smart since it's a holiday and all of their target audience is home from school. 12 episodes of Season 2 will debut in June with the third season expected to premiere later in 2018.

Andi Mack first aired on the Disney Channel in April 2017 with an initial 12 episodes. However, the original idea for the show was hatched in 2012 when Gary March convinced Lizzie McGuire creator Terri Minsky to come up with another teen-oriented show for the Disney Channel. Minsky was originally hesitant to take on the project, but later found inspiration while watching an interview with veteran actor Jack Nicholson. In the interview, Nicholson revealed that the woman he thought was his sister growing up was actually his mother.

The Jack Nicholson story directly influenced Andi Mack and production began in 2016. The basic premise for the first season was Andi Mack turning 13-years old when her sister Bex returns home. Andi later learns that Bex is actually her mother, just like the Nicholson story. Andi is able to work through all of her issues and coping with her mother news by hanging out with her good friends. Andi Mack has been a bit controversial for having a character come out as gay on the show. Andi's friend Cyrus (Joshua Rush) realizes that he has feelings for a male classmate and shares those feelings with his friend Buffy (Sofia Wylie).

Season 3 of Andi Mack is set to begin filming soon in Salt Lake City and will more than likely feature more of Cyrus on his journey of self-discovery. Disney's first coming out character along with the outside the norm family situation makes the show a lot more interesting and it has become a hit with the teen demographic since it made its debut last year. Each episode has an average of 1.3 million viewers, with the season finale of Season 1 earning nearly 2 million viewers.

Though it's not a complete shock that Andi Mack is returning for a Season 3, it is comforting for fans to know that they now have 2 more seasons to look forward to now. As previously mentioned, the rest of Season 2 will premiere in June, but no official release date has been set. As for Season 3, filming will begin soon, and the first part of the season will air later this year.
