American Horror Story series creator Ryan Murphy revealed on his Twitter page today that the world's smallest woman, Jyoti Amge, has joined the cast of American Horror Story: Freak Show. This season is set in the 1950s, centering on a carnival in Jupiter, Florida that has one of the last remaining freak shows left in the country. Jessica Lange is playing the German expatriate who runs the carnival.

It isn't known how many episodes Jyoti Amge will be appearing in, but she joins another new cast member Patti LaBelle, who recently signed on for a four-episode arc as the mother of Gabourey Sidibe's character. Other series newcomers this season include Michael Chiklis, Wes Bentley, John Carroll Lynch and Finn Wittrock. Returning regulars include Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts.

According to Jyoti Amge's Wikipedia page, the Nagpur, India resident's restricted height is due to a form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia. She was listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world's smallest woman, at 2 feet 0.6 inches tall, on her 18th birthday. She was also featured in a 2009 documentary entitled Body Shock.
