American Horror Story: Apocalypse co-creator Ryan Murphy shared the first images of the reunited Coven witches on social media over the weekend, which was a big surprise for fans of the hit series. It was also a bit of a shock because most of the characters shown in the picture have been killed off on the show. The image features Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode, Stevie Nicks as herself, Lily Rabe as Misty Day, Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery, Taissa Farmiga as Zoe Benson, Gabourey Sidibe as Queenie, and Frances Conroy as Myrtle Snow.

Anyone who watched Coven knows that it ended with Cordelia, Zoe and Queenie as the only surviving members. So, how are nearly all of the witches of Coven back in one place? Ryan Murphy didn't leave any explanations, he just posted the American Horror Story: Apocalypse picture and let fans start speculating. The most common reaction is that they're all witches who can come back from the dead, which seems to be the most logical answer out of all of them, and the answer with the least amount of explaining to do.

There are also some rumors that American Horror Story: Apocalypse could contain flashbacks, allowing for most of the Coven witches to return. Executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall has said that the new season "begins with the end of the world," and that "our world begins," afterwards, which could mean that a flashback takes place, or perhaps even the new season begins before everything that we've seen so far. When asked, star Sarah Paulson would only say, "it's the apocalypse in the truest sense of the word."

Ryan Murphy's picture of the witches from American Horror Story: Apocalypse is captioned by saying that they had a wonderful night with Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, which leads one to believe that she might not be in the upcoming season for all of the episodes. The band is launching a massive tour this fall, so it seems likely that the singer/actress was only around for one evening of filming to reunite the Coven witches. However, this is speculation at this point, nothing official has been announced about the length of Nicks' role in American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse premieres September 12th on FX. The new season is going to be a crossover between the prior seasons Coven and Murder House. Jessica Lang is returning as Constance Langdon from Murder House, which should be pretty interesting, especially since Taissa Farmiga had a very large role in Murder House alongside Frances Conroy and Sarah Paulson. The good news is that fans won't have to wait too much longer to see how everything is going to work together in the new crossover season.
