Orlando Jones has reportedly been fired from American Gods. The actor played the fan-favorite character Mr. Nancy. Jones is an original member of the cast and reveals he will not be coming back for season 3. As for the reason behind the firing, Jones went on to blame the hit Starz show's latest showrunner, Charles "Chic" Eglee. Jones is obviously not very happy about the situation, but he did show some gratitude for being able to play Mr. Nancy.

Orlando Jones revealed the news in a lengthy and NSFW Twitter video. When it comes down to it, Jones believes he was fired from American Gods for sending the wrong message to viewers. The actor clearly does not agree with the sentiment, but it should be noted that Charles "Chic" Eglee and Starz have yet to comment on the matter. Jones explains.

"There will be no more Mr. Nancy. Don't let these motherf***ers tell you they love Mr. Nancy. They don't. I'm not going to name names but the new Season 3 showrunner [Charles 'Chic' Eglee] is Connecticut born and Yale-educated, so he's very smart and he thinks that Mr. Nancy's angry, get sh*t done [attitude] is the wrong message for black America. That's right. This white man sits in that decision-making chair, and I'm sure he has many black BFFs who are his advisors and made it clear to him that if they did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy, he'd start a Denmark Vesey uprising in this country. I mean, what else could it be?"

After blasting the American Gods showrunner, Orlando Jones went on to thank others behind-the-scenes. American Gods Season 3 was officially announced, though there is no concrete release date. After the season 2 delay, it could be a while. However, Jones will not be there. He had this to say about the matter.

"To the wonderful Neil Gaiman, thank you for allowing me to play this role, for writing this wonderful book, for opening the door for me to become a writer/producer on Season 2 of American Gods, thank you sir. To the magnificent Bryan Fuller and the incredible Michael Green, thank you for creating this series and for allowing me, also, to become Mr. Nancy. I hope the fans enjoyed it because really this is about you. I hope you loved it as much as I loved doing it."

In a follow up tweet, Orland Jones directly called out production company Fremantle, which produces American Gods for Starz. The actor claims they are a "nightmare" and connected his firing to the recent dismissal of America's Got Talent judge Gabrielle Union. "They treated you like a 2nd class citizen for doing your job to well. Stay tuned. More to come," says Jones in the video.

Many American Gods fans responded to Orlando Jones' Twitter posts over the firing, offering their support and outrage. Mr. Nancy did make people feel uncomfortable in the best possible way and that's because of Jones' performance. He took the character and made it his own, which is what the fans are responding to. There is no word on if the character will be replaced or not. You can check out the announcement videos below, thanks to Orlando Jones' Twitter account.
