Is Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 already in the pipeline at ABC? The first live-action TV series to arrive during the age of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a mixed bag. It's been a good way for many hardcore Marvel fans to get their fix on a week-to-week basis, but it hasn't been a monster hit for the network either. It looked like Season 5 was maybe set to be the last for the series, but now a new rumor suggests season 6 is happening after all.

We caution that this is just a rumor for right now, as the network has yet to actually confirm the news and nobody officially connected with the series has come out and said it's happening. However, a new report states that three different sources from ABC connected with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have confirmed that season 6 is going to happen. One unnamed source had this to say to MovieTVTechGeeks.

"Disney doesn't want to lose another Avengers connection on network television. With the upcoming season 5 finale coming in May, expect a season 6 announcement which should give diehard fans some good news."

In many ways, this would make sense, assuming this source is legitimate. Avengers: Infinity War comes out in May, right as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 is coming to a close. While the show doesn't crossover with the movies very much, it's still tied to that universe. Avengers 4 comes out in May of 2019, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 could help build up to that and build off of the hype that Infinity War brings. It could offer a lot for the series to play with in season 6, if it does indeed happen.

Jed Whedon, brother of The Avengers director Joss Whedon and co-creator of the series, indicated in an interview in February that they were fully prepared for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 finale to be the final episode of the show. "Yeah, we're ready for if this is the end. We're definitely going to make it rewarding either way," Whedon said. So the season 5 finale will serve as its own, satisfying conclusion, regardless of the show's fate. Don't expect a cliffhanger, but also expect it to leave the door open for a possible return next season.

ABC has done some big things on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., from bringing back Agent Coulson from the dead to introducing Ghost Rider, with teases that Blade may show up. On the other side of the fence, the network has failed miserably with their Inhumans series and, though beloved by some, Agent Carter never got the ratings they were hoping for. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6, coming off of Avengers: Infinity War, has the chance to be a possibly epic final season for the Marvel series. A great many fans are likely hoping this rumor bears fruit. This news comes to us courtesy of MovieTVTechGeeks.
