Back in March, a report surfaced claiming ABC was close to renewing their Marvel series Agent Carter for a third season. Unfortunately, that news turned out to be false. The network canceled the show last month, while passing on proposed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel's Most Wanted. The news didn't sit too well with the show's fans, who launched an online petition last month to save the action adventure. As it turns out, Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, is completely on board to return for a third season.

Agent Carter debuted in January 2015, airing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s timeslot on Tuesday's at 9 PM ET during that show's midseason hiatus. The 10-episode second season debuted early this year, but ratings suffered a sharp decrease. The Season 2 finale drew in 2.35 million viewers, dropping 46% from the Season 1 finale last year which drew in 4.02 million viewers. Still, given this online petition to bring the show back, Hayley Atwell revealed during a MegaCon appearance, courtesy of Facebook, that she would love to come back if the show were to return on Netflix.

"I love Peggy. I love the people that were working on this project together. The fans are incredibly warm and welcoming. And it would be an absolute privilege and honor to bring her back for the fans."

The online petition has already received 116,000 signatures, but we don't know for sure if there are actually any talks between ABC, Marvel and Netflix to revive the show on the streaming service. Even though the show was canceled, the actress teased some interesting details about what the producers had planned, if Season 3 would have moved forward. Here's what she had to say below.

"There was talk of season 3 of going further back into her past. So the showrunners were talking about a possible kind of twist, I suppose, into something to do with the family. They suggested there would be more to do with my brother. So that's all I can say."

The moderator commented that he would like to see how the SSR eventually becomes S.H.I.E.L.D., which the actress teased that she'd like to save for her own movie, which resulted in a thunderous roar of applause from the audience. The second season of Agent Carter shifted the action from New York to Los Angeles, with Hayley Atwell playing the titular role of the unstoppable agent for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve). Dedicated to the fight against new Atomic Age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy Carter faced her most dangerous assignment yet. While we'll have to wait and see if Netflix steps up to bring Agent Carter back to life, take a look at video from Hayley Atwell's MegaCon Q&A session.
