Earlier today, Fox debuted a brand new poster for The X-Files, which teased the fan-favorite character CGB Spender, a.k.a. "The Cigarette Smoking Man. It was also revealed earlier today that the network will air a new trailer for this highly-anticipated series during tonight's episode of Gotham, and now the footage has been released online. Unfortunately, this video doesn't feature this mysterious and beloved character, but hopefully we'll get to see him very soon.

William B. Davis' appearance in The X-Files is somewhat surprising, since he appeared to be killed off during the 2002 two-part series finale, The Truth, and he didn't return for the 2008 feature film The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The actor appeared in 37 episodes of The X-Files between 1993 and 2002, and in the original series, The Cigarette Smoking Man was Mulder's arch nemesis. The character's real name, C.G.B. Spender, wasn't revealed until The X-Files Season 6.

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of The X-Files is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI Asst. Dir. Walter Skinner, Mulder and Scully's boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors.

The X-Files debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The upcoming event series will encompass a mixture of stand-alone episodes and those that further the original show's seminal mythology. The season premiere, entitled My Struggle, follows Mulder and Scully as they take on the case of a possible alien abductee.

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi will be joined by original series stars Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes, William B. Davis as "Cigarette Smoking Man" and the computer hackers known as The Lone Gunman, Ringo Langly (Dean Haglund), Frohike (Tom Braidwood) and Byers (Bruce Harwood). The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), Lauren Ambrose (Dig, Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley). Check out the new trailer, and stay tuned for more on The X-Files.
