Fox had quite the success in reviving 24 with the miniseries 24: Live Another Day this past summer. Now, the network is planning to do the same for another iconic cult show, as talks are ongoing for an X-Files series reboot. Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman confirmed the news earlier today.

The network is looking to bring a new installment of Chris Carter's supernatural drama to the small screen sometime in the near future. The original starred Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as two paranormal investigators working for the FBI. Newman said he was 'hopeful' about the outcome of launching a new version of X-Files. He also said he wouldn't mind reviving the 2005 cult series Prison Break, but there are no plans for that at the moment.

Chris Carter had hinted that a possible reboot was in the planning stages this past summer. He even acknowledged that he had conversations with Fox and 20th Century Fox TV. The series spawned two films, 1998's The X-Files and 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Fans have long wanted The X-Files 3, but it sounds like they will be getting a new version of the TV series instead. While Gillian Anderson recently revealed that she'd like to return to the franchise, it is not known if she or David Duchovny will be participating in the reboot.
