Ever since Fox finally confirmed that X-Files Season 11 is happening in April, we haven't had many updates on the series, but today we learned that another original cast member is returning. Mitch Pileggi has finalized his deal to return as FBI assistant director Walter Skinner in the new season. He will join original series stars David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully), although no further cast members have been confirmed at this time.

Deadline broke the news on the casting, revealing that production will begin this summer on the new 10-episode season. The first installment of this revival event series brought back characters from the original series such as The Lone Gunmen (Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund) and The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), along with a bunch of new characters played by guest stars such as Joel McHale, Lauren Ambrose, Robbie Amell and many more. It remains to be seen if any of these guest stars from the event series will be back for the new episodes.

The next chapter of The X-Files, a thrilling, 10-episode second installment of the event series, once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. In 2016, The X-Files drew an average multi-platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was the season's No. 2 broadcast drama, as well as the most talked-about event series on Twitter. The series set a new ratings record with more than 50 million viewers, and set new ratings records in multiple market. The series debuted on Fox in the U.S. and 80 countries internationally.

Assigned the FBI's most challenging cases, special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (Golden Globe Winners David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) face terrifying danger and bizarre phenomena as they struggle to unravel deadly conspiracies and solve paranormal mysteries. While Mulder grapples to comprehend the paranormal in every case, Scully seeks to solve their mysteries through science alone. As the series progresses, secrets about a vast and horrifying conspiracy unfold, culminating in shocking revelations about aliens, the U.S. government, and humanity itself in the exhilarating The X-Files.

Fans also have a new way to follow the adventures of Mulder and Scully. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be lending their voices to a new audio book, The X-Files: Cold Cases, which debuted through Amazon's Audible Studios yesterday. The audio book is an original full-cast dramatization featuring actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to voice FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. A trailer released for the book featured David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pillegi (Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (The Cigarette Smoking Man), Tom Braidwood (Melvin Frohike), Dean Haglund (Richard "Ringo" Langley) and Bruce Harwood (John Fitzgerald Byers). With production likely starting soon, hopefully we'll hear more about the cast of this new season of The X-Files.
