The X-Files event series is airing it's penultimate episode this Monday, titled Babylon, and with it comes the return of some highly anticipated characters. That's right, after a long absence, The Lone Gunmen are back! And we have your first look courtesy of EW.

The Lone Gunmen team is made up of Byers, Langly, and Frohike. They are a trio of conspiracy nuts who became extremely popular during the original run of the show, which ended on Fox way back in 2002. These guys were such fan-favorites that they got their own short-lived spinoff series titled The Lone Gunmen in 2001. The show only lasted 13 episodes, and has since been released on DVD.

But that wasn't the last we'd see of these guys. The trio later returned to the original The X-Files series for Season 9. And guess what? They died. So how is it possible that they've been resurrected for one of the six new episodes currently airing? Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund are all back, and they certainly have a new sense of style as indicated by the photo below. About their return, X-Files creator Chris Carter, who wrote and directed this upcoming episode, has this to say.

"When you're dead on the X-Files, you're never necessarily gone. There are ways to bring people back in dream sequences, flashbacks, and the like. This was an opportunity to use them, and bring them back to the show, in what is a presumed psychedelic hallucination."

So the Lone Gunmen aren't really alive? It sure sounds that way. Asked if he ever regretted killing off these fan-favorite conspiracy nuts, Chris Carter does feel a little remorse. He explains.

"We just did what the network did [to] their show: Pull the plug!I was sad to see them go. They were go-to characters when you needed weird exposition. I didn't want to pretend that they weren't dead, but I was looking for any way to bring them back."

Another unidentified key player in the The X-Files mythos will be making an appearance in Babylon. The episode will also introduce two new FBI agents played by Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose. So, what do you think? Do you love The Lone Gunmen's new look?
