Earlier this week, Fox ended weeks of speculation by cancelling Terra Nova after just one season. That report said Terra Nova producers will try shopping the show to other networks, and it seems they already may have a potential suitor in the online streaming giant Netflix.

Sources indicate it is still very early in the process, and both Netflix and 20th Century Fox Telelvision have not entered into formal negotiations yet. The move to a streaming service like Netflix does make sense, to a degree, since Terra Nova posted some of the highest gains on TV when DVR figures were calculated in. Terra Nova averaged a 3.6 rating and a 9 share in the Live+7 demographic, where DVR data comes into play, a 44% increase over its average live rating throughout the 13-episode first season.

At the same time, the show is very expensive to produce, with enormous sets and equally-enormous CGI dinosaurs to create, and it isn't quite clear how Netflix could make a big-budget show on its own, without a network licensing deal. Netflix did recently resurrect the cult classic comedy Arrested Development, with new episodes to begin airing in 2013, although the Bluth's won't have to square off with prehistoric creatures.

Terra Nova stars Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Stephen Lang, Landon Liboiron, Allison Miller, and Naomi Scott. The show centers on the Shannon family, who travel 85 million years into the past to join a colony tasked with rebuilding civilization.
