Westworld is officially coming back in 2020. HBO released a rather sneaky trailer for season 3 before the final Game of Thrones episode and people are freaking out. Season 2 of the hit HBO series was a bit hard to follow for some fans and it didn't look like much to others. With that being said, everything came to a crashing crescendo, leaving everybody guessing what they were going to do next. And now, we have a hint and it involves Aaron Paul and the future.

When the Westworld season 3 trailer started, nobody knew what it was. It starts with Aaron Paul giving a monologue over Pink Floyd's iconic song "Brain Damage," which probably cost the network a small fortune to license. Rapper Kid Cudi is also spotted in the mysterious trailer, which takes place in the future and out in the real world, since that's where Dolores and Bernard are now. Speaking of Dolores, she pops up at the very end of the trailer with Paul's character asking if she needs help. He might end up regretting that...

In addition to Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi, Westworld season 3 also features newcomers Lena Waithe, Vincent Cassel, and Marshawn Lynch. They join series regulars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Talulah Riley, Rodrigo Santoro, and Anthony Hopkins. It's going to be very interesting to see what goes down in the real world with Dolores intent on burning everything to the ground. Sadly, we do have to wait until 2020 to see what season 3 has in store for all of us.

Westworld series creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy haven't discussed season 3 a whole lot, which makes sense. They like to keep the show mysterious until after everything has premiered and then they really enjoy discussing everything with fans of the hit show online. However, they did recently talk about a "radical shift," and that is definitely evident in the first trailer for season 3. Joy had this to say.

"I think it's a radical shift. What's compelling and appealing about these characters is that they're not human. As we said in the show, humans are bound by the same loops the hosts are, in some ways even smaller. You couldn't expect human characters to withstand and survive the kind of story that we're telling. The hosts have a different version of mortality, a different outlook. I think clearly with Dolores, as she's laid out, there is a longer view here, a larger set of goals. They're existential. They span eons. And that's a fascinating level of story to engage in."

HBO has not set an official release date for Westworld season 3, but fans are probably hoping for an April release like the second season. Now that the hosts are out of the park, the world is going to be flipped upside down, which is going to make for a very interesting story arc. HBO will more than likely make a full announcement in the near future, now that Game of Thrones is over. You can watch the trailer for Westworld season 3 below, thanks to the HBO YouTube channel.
