More heartbreaking news to report as 2016 comes to an end. In a year rife with celebrity deaths from all spectrums of entertainment, a beloved member of MTV's reality family has passed away. Valerie Fairman, best known for starring on the docuseries 16 and Pregnant, is dead at the age of 23.

The full details on Fairman's death have not been released at this time. TMZ was the first to confirm that the young mother died of an apparent drug overdose. She is best known for appearing on MTV's 16 and Pregnant during the 2010 season.

Fairman's mother brought the official report that her daughter had succumbed to what appeared to be an OD. Valerie was at a friend's house in Coatesville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, December 21 preparing for the long holiday weekend. Concerns grew when Fairman refused to come out of the bathroom. A friend finally decided to break the door down, and at that time found Valerie unresponsive on the bathroom floor. An exact cause of death has not been confirmed.

Valerie was the breakout star during 16 and Pregnant Season 2. The series, and that episode run specifically, helped inspire other spin-offs including Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2. Valerie's episodes revolved around the birth of her daughter Nevaeh. The girl is now 7-years-old and is currently living with her grandmother.

Shortly after news broke of Valerie's passing, MTV released a statement. They were as surprised to learn about Fairman's death as the family, as the studio had kept in touch with the woman over the years since her initial appearance on the show. MTV said this.

"We are saddened by the news of Valerie Fairman's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this time."

Several other MTV stars have come forward to show their love for Fairman and to surrport the family in their time of grief. This includes Teen Mom 2's Chelsea Houska and Jenelle Evans, who appeared with Valerie on Season 2 of 16 and Pregnant. They took to social media to pay their respects.

No one necessarily wants to call it a highlight, especially following the untimely death of Fairman, but Valerie is perhaps best remembered on the hit reality show for the numerous fights she had with her boyfriend Matt. The couple were always unsure if he was actually the father of Nevaeh. It finally took a DNA test to convince them that he was.

After leaving the show, Valerie Fairman had several run-ins with the law. She also struggled with a substance abuse problem. In 2015, she was arrested on prostitution charges in Delaware. Last week, she was arrested for resisting arrest and giving false identification to police. It isn't being reported whether this latest brush with the law had anything to do with her overdose. At this time it is not being considered a suicide. But that has not been ruled out.
