Last month, Twin Peaks co-creator David Lynch announced on his Twitter page that he will not be involved with the Showtime revival of the series, which he had been set to direct, because, "not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done." The series was still said to be alive at Showtime, even without David Lynch's contributions. But we hadn't heard anything about the show, until today. David Lynch took to his Twitter page once again, revealing that he is back on board and Twin Peaks will air on Showtime. It isn't known if the show's proposed 2016 release date will be affected or not, but Showtime president David Nevins released a statement confirming that fans will be getting more than the 9 episodes that were initially promised.

"This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever. Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Pre production starts now!"

Showtime announced in October 2014 that Twin Peaks is returning with nine brand new episodes, all written by original Twin Peaks series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost, with David Lynch set to direct all nine episodes. In the months that followed, a number of original Twin Peaks stars were confirmed to return, such as Kyle MacLachlan (Special Agent Dale Cooper), Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer/Maddy Ferguson) and Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs). The show was originally announced to premiere in 2016, which marks 25 years after the original Twin Peaks first aired. You may recall that in the final Twin Peaks episode that aired in 1991, Laura Palmer tells Dale Cooper that she will see him again in 25 years.

No plot details were given for this new set of episodes, and Showtime has yet to confirm exactly how many episodes fans will be getting when Twin Peaks comes back. Now that the project is back on track, hopefully we'll learn about more original Twin Peaks stars coming back and new characters being cast as well. It isn't known when principal photography will begin on these new episodes, but we'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as more updates surface. In the meantime, take a look at David Lynch's tweet from earlier today below.
