Showtime's new Twin Peaks trailer shows original characters for the first time. Less than three weeks to go before the newly revived Twin Peaks makes its debut on Showtime and the excitement is getting hard to contain. It's been over 25 years since the beloved cult favorite David Lynch show last aired and May 21st cannot come soon enough. The 1992 feature film, Fire Walk With Me was a prequel to the series and also a fan favorite. The 18 hour limited event series picks up exactly 25 years after the people of Twin Peaks were shocked when their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was brutally murdered.

Twin Peaks latest video teaser comes courtesy of Showtime's YouTube channel and gives the very first look at some of the original Twin Peaks characters. In addition to FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, the teaser shows Deputy Hawk, Ed Hurley, Palmer's mother Sara, Deputy Andy Brennan, and Carl Rodd. The previous teaser clip showed off some of the locations in Twin Peaks. It was recently reported that two new episodes will premier at the Cannes Film Festival May 17th - May 28th.

This is all very exciting news for fans of Twin Peaks who have waited for Lynch to write and direct more of the cult favorite. The show had a lot of Lynch's familiar surrealism with offbeat humor and very distinctive cinematography. The show also received acclaim for the iconic theme, which was reportedly written and composed in 20 minutes by Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti. The band Fantomas, lead by Mike Patton recorded a cover of the song "Fire Walk With Me," which was originally composed by Badalamenti.

As previously mentioned, the 18 hour limited season will take place 25 years after the original series ended. David Lynch wrote the new series over the period of many years with Lynch directing all of the episodes. The new series has been called an odyssey with Special Agent Cooper lost and trying to find his way back to Twin Peaks. In addition to the original cast, Showtime revealed that Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Amanda Seyfried, Ashley Judd, and many more will be in the limited series as well.

It's been 25 years since Lynch left fans with the prequel Fire Walk With Me and 26 years since the airing of the original series. Excitement and expectations are at an all time high as fans wonder if Lynch and crew can return to their past glory. If these teasers are any indication, it would have to be a resounding yes. While not giving anything away, the trailers speak volumes to a fan who has been waiting a lifetime for more Twin Peaks and today got a lot better after seeing the original cast set into gear. One of the most groundbreaking and influential shows of all time is back with a premier on Showtime on May 21st, 2017 at 9pm. Until then, watch the new trailer below.
