Amanda Seyfried is returning to the small screen, landing a pivotal role in Showtime's highly-anticipated Twin Peaks revival series. Her character's identity was not announced, but TV Line revealed that she will play a major role, appearing in multiple episodes of the series. The Twin Peaks casting has not been confirmed, but it could signal the start of many more roles that will be revealed in the near future.

The site speculates that the 29-year-old actress could be the daughter of Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and Annie Blackburn (Heather Graham), who appears in the last six episodes of the series. Of course, that hasn't been confirmed, and Showtime wouldn't comment on the casting news. Kyle MacLachlan has been confirmed to come back as Cooper, but we haven't heard if Heather Graham's Annie Blackburn may return as well.

Earlier this month, the first set photos arrived from North Bend, Washington, where filming will take place for six weeks before moving to Los Angeles. In the original series, North Bend's Twede's Cafe was turned into the Double R Diner, and these photos from the set show that the production is turning Twede's back into the Double R. Actress Mädchen Amick also tweeted out a new photo, which revealed the Double R waitress costume worn by her character Shelly Johnson in the original series.

As of now, Kyle MacLachlan (Special Agent Dale Cooper) is the only cast member to be officially confirmed, but it has been rumored that Mädchen Amick, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn and several other members of the original cast are slated to return. David Lynch will direct every episode from one massive script he wrote with Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost. The writers actually wrote and will direct the series as one very long movie, which they will later cut into individual episodes. Sherilyn Fenn revealed at a convention that the show has expanded from the original nine-episode order to 18, but Showtime president David Nevins confirmed that the show has been expanded, but an episode count has not yet been determined.

The original Twin Peaks, which ran for two seasons between 1990 and 1991, followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) is shockingly murdered. The town's sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets were gradually exposed.

The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues. Amanda Seyfried hasn't had a major TV role since she left HBO's Big Love in 2010, after starring in the show's first four seasons. Amanda Seyfried will next be seen on the big screen in Pan (October 9) and Love the Coopers (November 13) later this year.
