Vince Vaughn Talks True Detective Season 2; More Photos
Following the first photos that emerged earlier this week, new images from the True Detective Season 2 set in Los Angeles offer another look at Taylor Kitsch as he engages a gunfight alongside Colin Farrell. We also have more images of Rachel McAdams. Though, the one star we haven't seen yet is Vince Vaughn. Thankfully, the actor recently spoke with Playboy, where he offered some insight into this season. The actor reveals that he was initially cast as career criminal Frank Semyon when he approached True Detective series creator Nic Pizzolatto about writing The Rockford Files movie that the actor was developing.
"I was developing a movie version of The Rockford Files and met with Nic about writing it. He was really enthusiastic but was already working on a crime drama set in Los Angeles, and he gracefully said it was best for him to focus on True Detective. Then he reached out to me about doing that series, and I was beyond flattered and thrilled to collaborate with him. I was happy to work with Colin Farrell too, whom I'd never worked with before."
As you know, Season 2 tells a completely different story than the critically-acclaimed Season 1, following three cops (Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch) and Vince Vaughn's character as they delve into a massive California conspiracy. When asked if he felt any pressure in signing on for Season 2, Vince Vaughn had this to say.
"Honestly, no, because Nic Pizzolatto is such a great writer, and so much of this is driven by his stories. I thought Woody (Harrelson) and Matthew (McConaughey) did an exceptional job with the first season. This one's very different, though. It's a totally different story, with its own characters. The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material. That was Louisiana. This is a California-based story, and it was kind of birthed from here. A lot of it is set in Los Angeles. I really like my character. Nic is so great about investigating characters and their complexities in an authentic and engaging way. I want to watch this show not because I'm in it but as a fan of the material."
HBO hasn't announced when the second season will premiere yet, but hopefully we'll learn more about True Detective Season 2 in the very near future. The supporting cast includes Kelly Reilly, Lolita Davidovich, James Frain, C.S. Lee and musician/actor Rick Springfield. Take a look at the photos from the L.A. set of True Detective Season 2, and stay tuned for more images and details.
