With production already under way on Season 2 of True Detective, we know the main cast of Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams has been set, but now we're hearing about new actors who are coming aboard. Just one week after Dexter star C.S. Lee signed on, singer Rick Springfield confirmed on his Twitter page that he has also joined the cast. It isn't known yet who Rick Springfield is playing, or how large a role he will have, but here's what he had to say to his Twitter followers on Wednesday.

"Just finished my 1st day of shooting for Season 2 of HBO's True Detective. What a great script. Working w/ Colin Farrell & Rachel McAdams!"

We don't know yet if Rick Springfield is just appearing as a guest star in one episode, or if he will have a recurring arc throughout Season 2. This season is set in California, centering on three cops (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams) and a career criminal (Vince Vaughn), who work together to unravel a vast conspiracy, in the aftermath of a grisly murder. The supporting cast includes Kelly Reilly, James Frain, Michael Irby, Abigail Spencer and Leven Rambin.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is writing all eight episodes of Season 2, with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes. Best known for hit songs such as "Jesse's Girl" and "I've Done Everything For You," Rick Springfield played himself in Showtime's Californication and he recently guest-starred on an episode of Drop Dead Diva. He has also played Dr. Noah Drake on 73 episodes of the soap opera General Hospital, in an arc that spans from 1981 to 2013. On the big screen, he will next be seen in Ricki and the Flash, alongside Meryl Streep.
