True Blood: The Complete Second Season Tops The DVD Sales Charts
In a week that saw a successful romantic comedy's debut on the shelves, a highly-popular HBO TV series claimed the DVD and Blu-ray thrones. According to The Hollywood Reporter, True Blood: The Complete Second Season pulled off a rare win for a TV-DVD set by taking the top spot on the DVD sales charts and the Blu-ray sales charts, for the week ending May 30. The victory comes right on the heels of True Blood's Season 3 premiere on Sunday, June 13 on HBO.
The five-disc DVD set held off stiff competition from the week's main theatrical release, Dear John, which came in second place on the DVD sales charts and third on the Blu-ray sales charts. The romantic comedy did manage to secure the top spot on the DVD rental charts, though, knocking last week's winner Valentine's Day, down to second place in rentals. The only other notable new release was the drama The Road, which took fourth place on the DVD sales charts and third place in rentals.
True Blood: The Complete Second Season took the top spot on the Blu-ray sales charts with BD mainstay Avatar, which also took third place in DVD sales, holding steady in second place on the high-def charts. The Road came in fourth place on the 1080p charts behind Dear John.
