Every major TV network is now securing a superhero TV series, with CBS officially picking up Supergirl last week. There is still one project fans are waiting to hear more about, TNT's Titans. The project was officially announced back in September, and we reported in February that this live action Teen Titans adaptation will feature characters such as Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Rachel Roth, Starfire, Hank Hall and Dawn Granger. We haven't heard when this might go into production yet, but TNT president Kevin Reilly revealed that series creator Akiva Goldsman has been "very busy doing some other things." They hope to lock down the cast and get production started this summer. The network president revealed that Akiva Goldsman wants to stay very true to the comic book, and will revolve around a Robin who has been betrayed by Batman. Kevin Reilly explains:

"I sat down with Akiva and said - and he ultimately agreed - that the [TV] landscape right now is well-serviced on the superhero front. So what space is this going to inhabit? And really what he wants to do is be very true (to the source material)."

Kevin Reilly said the original Teen Titans was a "groundbreaking" comic when it first debuted, delving into issues most comics don't. The network executive revealed that the comics showed "consequences" of one's actions, something he hopes to mirror in the series.

"There were consequences to things that happened; it wasn't somebody died and they moved on. There was the first superhero to be an addict [in Roy Harper's Speedy]. It's a coming-of-age story for Robin, who feels like Batman has betrayed him."

While we'll have to wait and see if Titans starts production this summer or not, Kevin Reilly thinks it will be a truly unique series in the pantheon of superhero shows.

"I think it's going to end up being a very, very interesting offering. I think it's going to be excellent."
