Last month, Amazon Studios announced that the long-awaited reboot of The Tick is part of its new comedy pilot season, while unveiling the first photos. The pilot episode will be available for all fans to watch on August 21, but until then, we have a slew of new photos for fans to check out. We also have new details from Ben Edlund, who created The Tick several decades ago.

The Tick is set in a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an underdog accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. The Tick stars Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) as the title character, Griffin Newman (Vinyl) as Arthur, Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as The Terror, Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) as Ms. Lint and Brendan Hines (Scorpion) as Superian, who are seen in these images. Here's what Ben Edlund had to say about the Amazon Studios show in a statement.

"This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us. The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of The Tick and Arthur's story in live-action, and I think we're on to something! Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today's superhero saturation tsunami - and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism. Is it a radically new hybrid of humor and super heroic action with characters you will care desperately about? YES! Yes it is."

The Tick is executive produced by Ben Edlund (Supernatural), Barry Josephson (Bones) and Barry Sonnenfeld (A Series of Unfortunate Events), directed by Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight), and written by Edlund. Patrick Warburton, who starred as the title character in the original series, will also serve as an executive producer. The Tick is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.

The Tick was created by an 18-year-old Ben Edlund as a newsletter mascot for New England Comics, a chain of Boston comic book stores. The comic book chain financed an independent run of comics in 1988 which spanned nine issues, which lead to The Tick animated series that ran for three seasons on Fox from 1994 to 1997, which featured the title character and a number of other heroes fighting crime in their fair city. Fox then brought a live-action TV series to the small screen in 2001, starring Patrick Warburton, but it was cancelled after just nine episodes. Take a look at these new photos, and stay tuned for more on The Tick.
