Fans have been waiting a long time to see the first trailer for Netflix's The Punisher and now it's finally here as a post-credit surprise at the end of The Defenders. Marvel's The Defenders premiered on Netflix early this morning and fans eager to devour the series were treated to the Punisher teaser that packs elements of Frank Castle's past and future. The Punisher is the next show between the Marvel and Netflix partnership and it is set to make its debut this fall on the streaming service.

The new clip comes after footage was shown at San Diego Comic-Con last month and fans have been clamoring for more ever since. The Punisher trailer comes to us via the Agents of Marvel Twitter account and features Jon Bernthal reprising his role of Frank Castle from the Daredevil series. Fans pretty much demanded a standalone Punisher show after Bernthal's performance in Daredevil, a performance that led to a bit of sympathy from the character's backstory, but fans were even more drawn to the character's violent tendencies, which are here in the trailer on full display.

The short trailer for The Punisher mostly shows Castle making his logo in concrete with a sledge hammer with a narration from Castle while flashing to violent and emotional scenes. Castle says, "All the things that I'd done... Memories... They never hurt me, but the past it's more than memories... it's the devil you sold your soul to." The trailer does a perfect job setting the tone for the new show, the anti-hero is here and he's on a mission that will have him stop at nothing until it is complete. There are shots of Frank Castle's military days, his family, as well as him loading up a shotgun along with sprinkles of brutality from what are assumed to be episodes from the show.

While the trailer does an excellent job for laying the foundation for The Punisher, it doesn't go into much detail about who else will be in the show or exactly what it will be about. The tone is set, but what's going on? Who else is starring in the show? Fans on the fence about watching the trailer out of fear of spoilers should just go ahead and watch it. There are no spoilers, just a really cool looking trailer that lets us know that The Punisher is coming and he means business.

No official release date has been announced for The Punisher, but it is expected to premiere on Netflix later this fall, possibly in November. The good news is that the wait is almost over, the bad news is that now we have this new clip leaving us all wanting more. Premiere dates for the new seasons of DaredevilJessica JonesLuke Cage, and Iron Fist have also not yet been announced. In the meantime, Marvel's The Defenders just premiered and there's a whole weekend coming up to binge watch the series and re-watch The Punisher trailer over and over while looking for clues.
