ABC has released a short cryptic trailer for The Conners, featuring the iconic family couch and Carly Simon's 1971 song "Anticipation." The teaser ends by asking, "What's Next?" How will one of America's favorite TV families move on without co-creator and star Roseanne Barr? The Roseanne spin-off series faces a lot of challenges as it prepares to premiere in October and the cast, as well as the network, are keeping just about everything regarding the storyline a mystery for the time being.
In a recent interview, John Goodman revealed that The Conners will be taking place after the death Roseanne Conner. When the spin-off was first announced, fans were left to wonder how the show would go on without Roseanne Barr and that question still remains. While that is still unclear, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey recently stated that some of the storylines that were considered for the Roseanne revival series, specifically pertaining to Dan and Darlene, will continue to play out on The Conners.
It has been estimated that The Conners will see a 25 percent ratings decrease from the Roseanne revival series, which is a pretty big drop. The 10-episode season is set to premiere on October 16th and getting the actors on board for the new show apparently went smoothly. Channing Dungey says that the creative aspect of the show is still very much intact and notes that the story, "about this family living in middle America in these economic circumstances," will continue to grow and evolve in the spin-off series. Hopefully, these stories will be compelling enough to get fans of the original Roseanne and the revival series back on board to watch The Conners.
The Conners features the original cast of John Goodman as Roseanne's husband Dan, Laurie Metcalf as her sister, Jackie, and Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, as her kids, Becky, Darlene and DJ, respectively. Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara and Jayden Rey are back for the series as the grandchildren who were introduced in the revival series. Kenney and McNamara play Darlene's children and Rey plays DJ's daughter. The grandchildren were seen as a fresh start for the Roseanne revival series, and it has been heavily rumored that the spin-off will focus on the lives of Darlene and her children.
The new teaser for The Conners is the second bit of promotion that has come out in the last few days for the show. Earlier this week, the first production photo was shared, featuring the cast of the new show sitting in the familiar kitchen from Roseanne. Both the picture and the teaser video show off iconic parts of the Conner house that is sure to stir up some emotions for long-time fans. There is still a lot about the series that is unknown, but it looks like they're trying to hold on to some of the past for the foundation.
