The CW Network series Supernatural is coming back with all new episodes this fall, continuing the adventures of the Winchester Brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). The series has brought on a new showrunner in Jeremy Carver, who previously served as a writer-producer for three seasons, before leaving to executive produce the Syfy series Being Human. The showrunner revealed he hopes to get back to a simpler brand of storytelling with Season 8.

"The one thing that struck me [while] watching Season 7 was I felt like the show got a little bit buried under its mythology. It became a little hard to tell exactly what was going on at times. The longtime fans all deserve intricate plot, but it felt a little burdensome. Resetting our mythology was one idea that I tried to bring into [the show]."

He also said that he plans on starting the new season with a flashback that both longtime fans and new watchers will be able to appreciate. The executive producer also said that the brothers will realize how much they have matured over the years.

"Part of this season is realizing they didn't just spend several years together; they really matured in different ways. It's one thing to get in a car with your brother in year one, but eight years later, you've both matured and grown. You're both changing and trying to find out who you are. There's a lot of that type of exploration for these guys this year."

Supernatural returns with the Season 8 Premiere Wednesday, October 3 at 9 PM ET on The CW Network.
