Explore the origin story of beloved comic book character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) in a new preview for Supergirl, debuting Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM ET, before moving to its regular 8 PM time slot on Novmeber 2. This video features never-before-seen footage from the series, along with executive producers/co-creators Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler revealing Kara Zor-El's unique and complicated history. This DC Comics series explains that Kara was actually sent to Earth from her home planet of Krypton to watch over her cousin, Kal-El, who would go on to become Superman. But things didn't go exactly according to plan.

Kara was 12 years old when she left Krypton to look over the newborn infant Kal-El, but Kara's escape pod ended up getting caught in the Phantom Zone, where time doesn't exist. She was stuck there for 24 years, but by the time she got to Earth, she was still a young girl, and Kal-El was all grown up. This featurette reveals that it is actually Superman himself who places young Kara in the care of her foster parents, Jeremiah (Dean Cain) and Eliza Danvers (Helen Slater). Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explains that, unlike Kal-El, who was raised from infancy in Kansas, Kara has to adapt to life on Earth.

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Supergirl will also feature a number of guest stars such as Peter Facinelli (Maxwell Lord, Chris Browning (Reactron), Jenna Dewan-Tatum (Lucy Lane/Superwoman), Brit Morgan (Livewire) and Iddo Goldberg (Red Tornado). The supporting cast includes Laura Benanti and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, but stay tuned to learn about more casting additions as we get closer and closer to the series premiere.
