As fans eagerly wait the debut of Supergirl on CBS this fall, the network has released a new preview that takes us behind-the-scenes on the first day of production. The pilot episode, which will debut Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM ET, was filmed months ago, but this video gives us a glimpse at the set for the second episode. We hear from stars Melissa Benoist, seen in her full Supergirl costume, Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) and David Harewood (Hank Henshaw), who reveals that the scene they're filming will "test Supergirl's abilities," although they're trying to "blow her up" at the same time.

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

We already know that Superman, Kara's cousin, will have some sort of a presence on the show, since he has been referenced to several times. It isn't known, though, if we will actually see the Man of Steel make an appearance in the flesh. Judging from the previously-released footage, it seems that Mehcad Brooks' James Olson will be a middleman of sorts between Kal-El and Kara Zor-El, but hopefully we'll get to see Superman fly into action at some point during Supergirl Season 1.

We reported yesterday that the DC Comics villain Reactron will be appearing on the show, although he has not been cast yet. The supporting cast is rounded out by Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord and Dean Cain and Helen Slater, who are playing Kara's adoptive parents The Danvers. It has also been rumored that Superwoman may be introduced into the series, but it has yet to be confirmed. While we await more details on Supergirl, take a look at this behind-the-scenes footage, and chime in with your thoughts.
