The Vampire Diaries and The Originals star Claire Holt is reportedly one of several actresses reading for the title role of CBS' Supergirl. No other actresses who are reading for the role have been identified, and it isn't known how long casting has been under way. We reported last week that executive producer Greg Berlanti and Colleen Atwood are going over the look for the title character's costume, but it isn't known if actresses are auditioning in costume or not.

The show was first announced back in September, with CBS issuing a series commitment just a few weeks later. The story will center on Kara Zor-El, a 24-year-old who was born on Krypton but escaped to Earth just after her home planet was destroyed. She has been hiding in plain sight on Earth, refusing to use her incredible powers, when she eventually decides to embrace her abilities. It still isn't clear if Kara's cousin Superman will be popping up on the show as well.

Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) co-wrote the pilot script with Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family), with both writers serving as executive producers alongside Sarah Schechter. It isn't known when production may begin on this upcoming series, or when it may air. Depending on when production may begin, CBS could air Supergirl in late midseason or summer, or they could also hold off for a fall debut.

Claire Holt is best known for playing Rebekah on CW's The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. She will next be seen in NBC's upcoming series Aquarius.
