Much like current TV shows based on DC Comics, such as Arrow, and The Flash, Supergirl will feature a number of characters rooted in the comic books. We reported last week that the CBS series is bringing in the villain Reactron, although the character had not been cast at that time. Today, Entertainment Weekly reveals that Chris Browning (Sons of Anarchy) has landed the role.

In the comics, Ben Krull, a.k.a. Reactron, was primarily known as a Superman villain from Metropolis, who wears a suit of armor powered by nuclear energy. Since Reactron has never been able to defeat the Man of Steel, he journeys to National City to get his revenge by trying to kill Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). The character is slated to appear in the show's third episode, with the potential to return as a recurring character throughout Season 1.

Chris Browning's casting comes just a few weeks after Peter Facinelli signed on as Maxwell Lord. The main cast also includes Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott. Dean Cain and Helen Slater also star as Kara Zor-El's foster parents, the Danvers.

Supergirl centers on Kara, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats.

Chris Browning is best known for playing Gogo in FX's Sons of Anarchy. The actor most recently had arcs on The Bridge, The 100, Graceland, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Ray Donovan and Major Crimes.
