The CW's hit drama Supergirl took the stage at the show's Comic-Con 2018 panel session to reveal that the DC Super Hero series will welcome three new cast members for the upcoming Season 4. The first trailer for new episodes also dropped, giving us a first look at Agent Liberty.

The hit show will feature TV's first transgender superhero in the upcoming season. Transgender activist Nicole Maines will join the show in the series regular role of Nia Nal, aka Dreamer. In addition to Maines, Supergirl fans can look forward to the addition of new series regular April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley and David Ajala who will recur as Manchester Black.

Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) is the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team. She's a soulful young transgender woman with an intense drive to protect others. Nia's journey in Season 4 of Supergirl means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl). Nicole Maines' Nia Nal will more than likely have the power of precognitive visions, based on her 1964 comic book debut. More information about her character will be announced before the show premieres in October.

Hardline career military woman Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) is committed to following orders. Dedicated to her country, she always acts in its best interest, which can sometimes mean that it's not always in her best interest. Based on the iconic DC character, Manchester Black (David Ajala) is good at bringing any kind of weapon to a fight and ending up on top. With a dark past, he easily deflects the brutality of his mission with his charm and sense of humor.

The new Supergirl casting announcements come just days after it was revealed that Sam Witwer is joining the cast as Agent Liberty. Additionally, Jesse Rath, who appeared in Season 3 as Braniac 5 has been upgraded to series regular. Longtime cast members Jeremy Jordan (Winn) and Chris Wood (Mon-El) left the show at the conclusion of last season. There's a lot of changes going on for the hit CW show, but it seems that the momentum is also gaining.

In addition to the new castings, Supergirl also released a new trailer for Season 4, which teases fallout from Kara's time travel. There are some pretty big changes for the upcoming season of the hit CW show and they're hinted at in the new Comic-Con trailer. However, the biggest change that is evident right off the bat is the insane new costume that Supergirl has. The suit has an armored look that gives off some real Girl of Steel vibes with a light-up chest plate thrown in for good measure. If that wasn't enough, the new trailer also gives us our first look at Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty, who has been described as "ruthless and terrifying leader of Children of Liberty," which is an extreme hate group.

Season 3 of Supergirl spent a lot of time in outer space, which will change in the upcoming season. Executive producer Jessica Queller says that the show will move to a more down-to-Earth approach for Season 4. Queller noted that the show wants to make a conscious effort of dealing with issues that are going down on Earth, which makes sense, especially since some fans weren't happy with all of the outer space time. Queller had this to say.

"This year, we wanted to make the show a little more grounded. We wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on some of the things that are happening in our world."

Supergirl returns for its fourth season on October 14th in its new Sunday 8PM time slot on The CW. Based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, and Jessica Queller. Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. You can check out the Comic-Con trailer for Season 4 of Supergirl below, thanks to The CW YouTube channel.
