Throughout the first season of Supergirl on CBS, the show often referenced Kara Zor-El's famous cousin Superman, with the show even giving us a look at his Fortress of Solitude. We had also seen younger versions of Superman in the show, but now that Supergirl has shifted to The CW, we'll finally be seeing an adult version of this hero. Today we have word that the network has cast Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel.

DC Comics reveals that Tyler Hoechlin will make a two-episode appearance at the very beginning of Season 2. It isn't known if Tyler Hoechlin has signed on for more episodes beyond that arc in Supergirl Season 2, but we'll have to wait and see. Here's what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say in a statement regarding Tyler Hoechlin's casting.

"Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."

Superman has previously engaged with Melissa Benoist's Girl of Steel on several occasions via instant messaging. However, so far the only glimpses we've seen of him have been from a distance or greatly obscured. It isn't known when production is slated to begin on Supergirl Season 2, but it's possible that we may get our first look at Tyler Hoechlin in the Superman costume at Comic Con next month.

Ever since Supergirl moved to The CW, there has been talk of a crossover with the network's other superhero shows, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. We don't know for sure yet if the Man of Steel will be present in this crossover, but we'll be sure to keep you posted with more updates. Tyler Hoechlin was last seen on the big screen in Everybody Wants Some, and he is best known for his work on the small screen in MTV's Teen Wolf. Stay tuned for more on Season 2 of The CW's Supergirl.
