The CW took over Supergirl duties for season 2 after the show was dropped by CBS. That has worked out quite well so far, but we'll see if they can stick the landing as the season 2 finale is just around the corner. The episode looks like it is going to be an action-packed affair, filled with villains and lots of action in National City. Among the villains Kara is going to have to contend with this week? None other than General Zod, who is featured in a newly released trailer for the Supergirl Season 2 finale.

The CW dropped the new trailer online today, ahead of the Supergirl season 2 finale, which is set to air on Monday. In the episode, titled "Nevertheless, She Persisted," Supergirl challenges Rhea, played by Teri Hatcher, to battle in an effort to save National City. Meanwhile, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman also returns to the show for the finale, but it isn't all sunshine and roses this time around. As we see in the trailer, he is going to be evil for at least a chunk of the episode, leading to a brawl with his less famous cousin. Additionally, Calista Flockhart is back as Cat Grant, who offers Kara some advice in the trailer, taking on a bit of a mentor role. But most importantly, General Zod!

It was announced earlier in the year by the network that General Zod, played by Mark Gibbon, will be making his appearance in Supergirl season 2. Since the Girl of Steel is going to have her hands full fighting with Rhea for the fate of Earth, and at least for a chunk of time, fighting Superman, all while trying to prevent an alien invasion (again), this time from the Daxamites, we can assume Zod won't be the main focus of this episode. However, they are probably setting him up for a more significant role in Supergirl season 3, since he is a huge villain in the DC Comics universe.

If you are just a casual DC fan, you are probably familiar with General Zod. The character famously appeared on screen in Superman and Superman II, with Terence Stamp playing him. Director Zack Snyder later brought the character to the big screen again in Man of Steel, with Michael Shannon taking on the role, with a much more dark and gritty take. The character also appeared on Smallville, as portrayed by Callum Blue. So we have seen the DC Comics big bad on the small screen before, but this looks to be quite a different take. It isn't a lot of footage to go on, but let's just say this looks to be in stark contrast to what Michael Shannon brought to the role in Man of Steel.

"Nevertheless, She Persisted" was directed by Glen Winter and looks like, if nothing else, will deliver a whole lot of action and high stakes for the Supergirl season 2 finale. Supergirl has already been renewed for a season 3, so it is definitely possible this one could end on a cliffhanger.
