There are few people who have been more valuable to the world of Star Wars over the last decade or so than Dave Filoni, the man behind Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There are also few who are more secretive about what they are working on. But with Star Wars Rebels season 4 set to conclude the series, he has been talking a little bit about what we can expect from the final season. And now he has revealed that it is going to share some similarities with Rogue One.

Dave Filoni was recently speaking with IGN about Star Wars Rebels season 4 and revealed that, at least in terms of design, the final season of the show will be similar to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He also talked just a little bit about what we can expect from the upcoming season. Here is what he had to say about it.

"Now that Rogue One is out, it opens up a lot of possibilities for us to tell these stories. We can go to Yavin now. We can start to deal with the way things worked out in the film and include ideas that are happening prior to that. The look of the background rebels really shifts to being more of the kind of drab military colors that you see in Rogue One. The Phoenix group of Rebel soldiers are kind of petering out. So they're redistributed into Mon Mothma's group on Yavin and Dodonna's group. You see a restructuring of certain cells, and certain cells get destroyed. And that's true of the ships as well. So there's lots of little, neat, detail level things that happen when our characters are heading into season 4 and are absorbed into the kind of pre-Rogue One era, which I thought they did beautifully in the film."

Ever since the series started, it was clear that Star Wars Rebels would have a very limited lifespan. Season 1 took place roughly 5 years before the events of Rogue One and now that they are bumping up very close to the movie, it makes total sense that Star Wars Rebels season 4 will look a bit more like it. There will also be some other Rogue One connections in the form of Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) and Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly} both set to return for the final season. But Dave Filoni has also said that season 4 won't be recreating any of the battles or events that actually happened in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So don't expect to see what the Ghost crew was up to during the battle of Scariff.

Taylor Gray, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, and Tiya Sircar are all going to return for the final season of Star Wars Rebels, but don't expect all of them to make it out alive. Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet set a premiere date for Star Wars Rebels season 4, but it is set to return this fall on Disney XD. The fourth and final season of Star Wars Rebels will consist of 15 episodes and, in case you missed it, the first trailer for the upcoming season debuted at Star Wars Celebration last weekend.
