Star Trek: Discovery released an action-packed second trailer at San Diego's Comic-Con today. The new trailer comes after CBS announced that the highly anticipated show would launch on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 airing at 8:30 PM ET/PT. The time may be approximate due to Sunday night football and 60 Minutes, which runs directly before the show. Star Trek: Discovery was announced at last year's Comic-Con where Rod Roddenberry, the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, praised the showrunners while declaring that "people will not be disappointed."

The trailer comes to us courtesy of the official Star Trek YouTube channel and unlike the first teaser, which used footage exclusively from the first episode, the new trailer shows footage from several episodes throughout the season. The clip shows the first footage of Rainn Wilson's con man character Harry Mudd as well as Jason Isaac's Captain Gabriel Lorca in action. There is also a mention that the plot revolves around some dialogue from Lorca accusing Sonequa Martin-Green's character Michael Burnham for igniting the war with the Klingons. We'll have to wait until September to get the full scoop though.

The new trailer was unveiled during the Star Trek: Discovery panel at Comic-Con. Executive producer Gretchen J. Berg told the crowd that it was important for them to use the Klingon language in the show. She said, "It was very important for us to have the Klingons speak Klingon, and there will be subtitles. They have their own pride. They have their own interests and talent. It's a very fascinating culture." So, that's good to know. Fans won't have to dust off a Klingon dictionary to follow along with the show. The cast was also in attendance and was asked questions during a fan Q and A, but were really careful not to spoil any of the secrets ahead of the fall release date.

The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, along with Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Chris Obi as T'Kuvma and Mary Chieffo as L'Rell. This new series will also feature an openly-gay character, Lt. Stamets, played by Anthony Rapp, an astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Discovery, along with James Frain as Spock's father, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, captain of the Starship Discovery, and Mary Wiseman as Tilly, a Starfleet Academy Cadet in her final year of study, assigned to the Starship Discovery. The cast is rounded out by Shazad Latif as Lieutenant Tyler, Rekha Sharma as Commander Landry, Kenneth Mitchell as Kol, Clare McConnell as Dennas, Damon Runyan as Ujilli and Kenneth Mitchell as Kol.

Star Trek Discovery is set roughly ten years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series and will see a cold war between the United Federation and the Klingons. The events of the show are said to be separate from the events that are happening in a separate timeline from the current movies. Star Trek: Discovery officially premieres on September 24th, 2017, but in the meantime you can check out the brand new trailer below.
