Latino Review announced earlier today that writer and director Drew Goddard has left Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil series, with THR quickly confirming the news. While Drew Goddard will no longer direct or write the pilot, he will remain with the series as a consultant on the drama.

Drew Goddard will now hand over showrunning duties to Steven S. DeKnight, who has worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost. He also served as showrunner on Starz' Spartacus for three seasons.

Drew Goddard stepped down as showrunner to focus his energy on writing and directing previously announced The Sinister Six for Sony Pictures.

Drew Goddard was set to write and direct the first episode of Daredevil, while serving as a show runner and an executive producer for the remaining 12 episodes. The series is scheduled to hit Netflix in 2015, streaming all 13 episodes on its premiere date.

Daredevil is one of four new Netflix and Marvel series planned for 2015. The other shows include Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The series will culminate in a miniseries event for The Defenders.

Daredevil is on the cusp of principle photography, which will begin this summer. Casting announcements are expected soon, with both Zac Efron and Dexter's Michael C. Hall said to be eyed for the lead. Its not clear if this news will shift the timeline of the production.

We likely won't know more about this story until Tuesday due to the holdiay weekend. Stay tuned for the latest breaking Marvel news, which at this rate, could continue throughout the holiday weekend. Happy Memorial Day!
