Smallville returns to wrap up its 10th and final season with new episodes starting Friday, April 15. A week later, on April 22, fans will be treated to their first look at the DC Comics character Booster Gold in the episode entitled Episode 10.18: Booster. Take a look at the first photo of Booster Gold below, as portrayed by Eric Martsolf, with Jaren Brandt Bartlett as The Blue Beetle in the background. Read on for more information on both of these characters.

Booster Gold is a cult favorite in the DC Comics world, who is more conceited than the typical superhero. The character is a former quarterback whose career ended after he was caught betting on his own games. He uses a time machine to start a new life as a superhero, who is also endorsed by several corporations. Here's what Eric Martsolf had to say about his character below.

"The episode takes place in Booster's very early stages where he's at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants. He's going to stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts."

His egotistical ways are in sharp contrast to Tom Welling's Clark Kent/Superman. This episode also shows the origin of Jamie Reyes a.k.a. The Blue Beetle, where a high-tech scarab gives Reyes super powers. We reported in January that Jaren Brandt Bartlett would play The Blue Beetle. Here's what Geoff Johns, who wrote the episode, had to say about the origin of The Blue Beetle.

"This is the first time the scarab comes on to Jaime, so it creates a bulkier, more dangerous armor. Ultimately he'll gain more control over the scarab and it will become more friendly looking."

Eric Martsolf also said this episode shows Clark Kent stepping into his Superman persona even more.

"It's rich in comic book history, but it's also a vehicle for Clark to start to embrace the marketability of Superman and what he could potentially be."
