It's official! Sense8 has been renewed for Season 2 on Netflix. The cast of this sci-fi thriller jumped on Twitter this morning to make the announcement with a special 'birthday' video. The show comes from J. Michael Straczynski, working alongside the 'Wachowski Starship', other wise known as The Matrix trilogy creators Andy Wachowski and his brother-turned-sister Lana Wachowski.

The fate of the series was looking quite uncertain. Some fans had abandoned the series early, not finishing all of the episodes. But those who stuck through to the end were rewarded with one of the greatest modern sci-fi shows ever attempted. And that buzz slowly but surely brought back viewers who'd left, or those who simply weren't interested in it in the first place. Sense8 is considered a success for the 'Wachowski Starship'. They have had a string of commercial bombs at the box office over the past few years, including 2008's Speed Racer, 2012's Cloud Atlas and this year's Jupiter Ascending. Though, all three films have accumulated strong cult followings.

Deadline reports that at last month's TCA Summer Tour, co-creator J. Michael Straczynski was uncertain about the fate of his show. No one really knew how well the show was doing, or how it was being received by fans, aside from it's presence on social media. About the impending renewal, the co-creator stated the following.

"We're still waiting word for the final determination, but the talks have been optimistic. It's Netflix's call."

Netflix gathered the cast for their characters' shared birthday greeting, which was used to announce their return and can be seen in the tweet below. The cast includes Freema Agyeman, Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Daryl Hannah, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Brian J. Smith. At this time, it isn't known if there will be any new cast additions. And as such, no additional plot details have been released.

What would it be like to have 7 other selves? Sense8 is a gripping story of eight people from around the world whose lives are suddenly and inexplicably connected in a fight for their own survival. All twelve episodes of the global dramatic thriller are streaming now on Netflix in all Netflix territories around the world. Unlike anything seen on television before, Sense8 pushes the boundaries in style, scope and story. Check out the happy birthday video from the cast. Then you can watch 'Sense8' right now on Netflix.
