The last we heard about ABC's highly-anticipated Roseanne revival is that Johnny Galecki is finally in talks to return as David Healy. Today we have word on who will play David and Darlene's (Sara Gilbert) young son. Ames McNamara has just been cast as the first new character in this Roseanne revival, Mark, a precoious eight-year-old. The character will be a series regular, with the casting breakdown offering a brief yet interesting description of this character.

"Sensitive and bright, Mark occasionally likes to wear girls' clothing."

TV Line reports that the series is still casting for Darlene and David's daughter Harris, who is now 14 years old, with longtime viewers likely recalling that the character was first introduced in the 19th episode of Season 9, when Darlene delivered the baby prematurely. The name mark is said to be an homage to late actor Glenn Quinn, who played David's older brother Mark on the show and passed away in 2002. Laurie Metcalf revealed that there will be new characters such as her character Jackie's son Andy, along with Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and Dan Connor's (John Goodman) son Jerry Garcia Connor, who was born in Season 7, both of whom would be 23 and 24 years old today. Here's what Sara Gilbert, who also serves as an executive producer on the revival, had to say in her statement about the talented young Ames McNamara.

"It's inspiring to see so much talent at such a young age. Some people are born with abilities beyond their years. Ames is one of those people."

Sara Gilbert also added that the talks with Johnny Galecki have not been finalized yet, but she added that the discussions have been "productive" and that they are hopeful everything can be worked out. It's possible that the negotiations have been prolonged due to working out scheduling issues with Johnny Galecki's hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, which returns for its 11th season on CBS this fall. It remains to be seen how large a role Johnny Galecki will have should he finalize his return on Roseanne. One of the other big mysteries surrounding this show is how they'll address Dan's death.

The series finale revealed that the entire series was actually all in Roseanne's past, representing the life she was writing about in a book, and in reality, her husband Dan passed away after suffering a stroke, which happened in the show at the end of Season 8. It was revealed that Dan Connor's fate will be revealed in this revival series, although it remains to be seen if it will follow an update Roseanne Barr herself gave on her website a few years back, when she revealed that Dan actually faked his own death. We'll find out for ourselves when the show debuts in 2018.

The entire Roseanne cast will return from the original series, including Roseanne Barr (Roseanne Connor), John Goodman (Dan Connor), Sara Gilbert (Darlene Connor), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie Harris), Michael Fishman (D.J. Connor) and Alicia Goranson (Becky Connor), with Sarah Chalke, who replaced Alicia Goranson as Becky, also returning as a new character. Hopefully we'll hear more about Roseanne very soon.
