Following a new Riverdale poster that debuted just a few days ago, The CW has released a new promo for the highly anticipated new series. This promo features new footage from the upcoming series, along with interviews with cast members KJ Apa (Archie Andrews), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge) and Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper). The CW recently set a January 27 premiere date for this highly-anticipated series, so we'll have to see how much more footage will be released in the next month.

While this series is based on the iconic Archie Comics and its characters, Riverdale presents them in a much different way. This season starts with a new school year beginning, with the town still reeling from the death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom, the twin brother of Cheryl Blossom. This mysterious death will cast a pall over this sleepy town, although we'll have to wait until the January 27 premiere to see how this mysterious death unfolds. This new promo courtesy of YouTube doesn't shed any light on how this death happens, but this mystery most likely won't be solved until the end of this season.

Archie Andrews is still the all-American teen, but the summer's events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music - not follow in his dad's footsteps-despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale's young music teacher, Ms. Grundy. Which means Archie doesn't have anyone who will mentor him - certainly not singer Josie McCoy, who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It's all weighing heavily on Archie's mind - as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones.

Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she's not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty's nerves - which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice aren't the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge, arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione, there's an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn't want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there's Cheryl Blossom... Riverdale's Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows.

The Riverdale cast also includes Sarah Habel as Ms. Grundy, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Shannon Purser as Ethel Muggs and Robin Givens as Mayor Sierra McCoy. Riverdale will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 PM ET, following the mid-season premiere of Supernatural, which moves to the Thursday 8 PM ET time slot. This schedule shift pushes the network's superhero series DC's Legends of Tomorrow to Tuesday nights at 9 PM ET, following The Flash at 8 PM ET. It remains to be seen if this new strategy will pay off for The CW, but we'll have to wait and see how Riverdale fares in its debut. Take a look at the new promo for Riverdale below, as we get closer and closer to the premiere.
