Riverdale proved to be a major hit for The CW last year. The idea of taking the characters from Archie Comics, who were classically pretty innocent, and turning it into a dark show with a bunch of good looking teenagers turned out to be a stroke of brilliance for the network. Riverdale season 2 is set to be a big deal this fall and The CW has just dropped the first teaser for the new season.

The Riverdale Season 2 trailer made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con and was released online to The CW YouTube channel for everyone to see. The trailer starts with a blooper reel from Riverdale Season 1, giving us something a little lighthearted to start out with before things get really dark. You've always wanted to see Archie say butthole, right? But once the Riverdale season 2 trailer kicks in, it goes from fun to super dark in a hurry. This line from the teaser seems to sum it up pretty well.

"It's like the angel of death has come to Riverdale."

In the teaser, we see Archie taking his dad, who was shot during an armed robbery at the end of Season 1, to the hospital in an attempt to save his life. The Riverdale Season 2 trailer doesn't quite resolve his fate for us, so you're going to have to tune in for that. There is also the matter of the identity of the man or woman who shot him that needs to be dealt with. The plot thickens. It then turns into a montage of everyone starting to question what darkness is about to befall their town. This looks like it is going to be a potentially bloody and very tense second season.

The second season of Riverdale is going to be bringing back the entire principal cast from the first season. The series stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom. Luke Perry (assuming he lives) is also going to return as Fred Andrews and Molly Ringwald will be back as Mary Andrews.

Even though Riverdale Season 1 was a mid-season show, The CW isn't making us wait that long to see some new episodes. Riverdale Season 2 is set to premiere on October 11, so get your DVRs ready. An episode count has not yet been revealed, so it isn't clear exactly how many episodes we are going to get but at least we aren't going to have to wait that long to get them. Also, if you need to catch up on the show, Riverdale Season 1 is already on Netflix. Be sure to check out the Riverdale season 1 bloopers and the Riverdale Season 2 teaser trailer for yourself below.
