We've got just one more episode of Riverdale with Luke Perry. Sadly, Perry passed away very unexpectedly after suffering a fatal stroke last month. The actor, known previously for his work on shows such as Beverly Hills, 90210, had been playing Archie Andrews' (K.J. Apa) dad, Fred Andrews, on The CW's hit series prior to his passing. Now, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has confirmed that the upcoming Riverdale season 3 will be the last to feature Perry.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took to Twitter to break the news to fans. The writers and the creative team had to rework some of their plans for the remainder of season 3, given that they fully planned to have Luke Perry along for the rest of the ride. While it still hasn't been revealed how the show is going to deal with Perry's tragic death, we know that his final moments on Riverdale are coming very soon. Here's what Aguirre-Sacasa had to say about it.

This week's Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed. As always, Fred's imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son. Wish these scenes could go on forever..."

Production on Riverdale was actually shut down temporarily shortly after the news of Luke Perry's passing came to light. At the time, it wasn't made clear how much of season 3 would feature Perry's character or how many episodes he had filmed. Whatever the case remains for the future of the show, this week's episode is going to be very important. Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on the series, actually spoke a bit on The View last month in regards to how they were going to handle the situation.

"I can't go too much into the spoilers of it, but we do have something planned narratively. We dedicated some of the episodes to him. He was very well loved. I mean, the whole world is mourning his passing. But, he was one of those guys that would rather have us all laughing about his great stories than mourning for too long."

Riverdale, which is a dark take on the long-running Archie comics, has proved to be a huge hit for The CW since its debut in 2017. Ratings for the show's second season absolutely skyrocketed, in part thanks to many people discovering the show after the first season was made available to stream on Netflix. That may, in part, explain why the streaming service picked up Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which was originally being developed by the network as a spin-off.

The CW has already ordered a fourth season of the show. So we're going to see a lot more from Archie and the gang in the future. Sadly, it just will have to be a future without Fred Andrews. Riverdale will air Luke Perry's final episode on Wednesday, April 24. Be sure to check out the original post from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Twitter below.
