2017 is going to be massive for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok all coming out on the movie side of things this year, but Netflix is releasing three new shows as well. Iron Fist is set to debut next month, which will help lead into The Defenders, with The Punisher season 1 also set to hit the streaming service at some point in the next ten months. Now, we have a fresh batch of set photos to help fuel the excitement for Frank Castle's return to Netflix.

These new photos from The Punisher season 1 come courtesy of Twitter user Kültürpat. The very same Twitter account was responsible for the last batch of set photos we reported on, which featured Frank Castle bringing flowers to someone, seemingly to pay his respects. The new photos feature a very clean cut and stern looking Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in action stealing a cop car. There isn't a whole lot of context provided for why he is stealing the cop car, but anyone who watched The Punisher in Daredevil season 2 probably doesn't find this action overly surprising.

Details on The Punisher have largely been kept under wraps by Netflix, but fans are very excited to see Jon Bernthal return as Frank Castle after his incredible performance in Daredevil. It is definitely worth noting that Frank is clean shaven in these photos, because in some earlier set photos he was featured looking pretty grizzly and sporting an impressive beard. That could mean we are following Frank Castle in a couple of different timelines in The Punisher season 1. Or, it could just mean that he decides to clean himself up just for the fun of it at some point. It seems likely that there is a reason for the rugged look in these earlier set photos, though.

Netflix has added several new cast members for The Punisher Season 1. Ebon Moss-Bachrach has come aboard to play Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle. Amber Rose Revah also signed on to play Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent and Ben Barnes will play Billy Russo, Franks Castle's best friend from his days in the Special Forces, who runs a successful private military corporation called "Anvil." It has also been confirmed that Daredevil's Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page, will also be appearing in The Punisher. That will help provide some connective tissue to rest of the Netflix Marvel universe.

Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal), who wrote the first two episodes of the series, is serving as showrunner and Executive Producer for The Punisher. Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) will also serve as Executive Producer along with Marvel's head of television, Jeph Loeb. Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date for The Punisher, but it is confirmed for a 2017 debut. You can check out the new set photos for yourself below.
