Yesterday, AMC took to the popular mobile app Snapchat to release the first five minutes of the highly anticipated Preacher pilot episode in advance of the Sunday, May 22 launch. The initial preview on Snapchat marked the first time an extended clip of a network TV show was available on the app. In case you missed the preview yesterday, we have the full five-minute clip for you to watch below, which introduces us to Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), along with a church service in Africa that goes terribly wrong.

The preview opens in outer space, as we see an unknown entity rocketing through the cosmos, before landing in Africa. There we see a charismatic reverend preaching to his congregation, when suddenly his sermon is interrupted by a powerful force, bringing this service to an unexpected end. From there, we get a brief flashback at Jesse Custer's past, as we see another preacher, Jesse's father, ask his son to keep a promise. Hopefully we'll see more of this flashback throughout the pilot episode when it debuts on AMC this Sunday at 10 PM ET.

Preacher is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between. The series stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sherriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface.

The supporting cast also includes Jamie Anne Allman as Betsy Schenk, Thomas Barbusca as Chris Schenk, Lucas Neff as J.J. Quinncannon and Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon. The ten-episode season was developed for television by executive producers Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (This Is the End, Superbad, Neighbors) and executive producer and showrunner Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad). Preacher, which is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's popular '90's comic book franchise of the same name, is a Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production.

James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Vivian Cannon, Ori Marmur, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter also serve as executive producers on the series, with Garth Ennis, Steve Dillon, Mark McNair, Michael Slovis and Sara Goodman serving as co-executive producers. With the regular network TV season currently winding down, we'll have to wait and see if Preacher can become one of this summer's biggest hits on the small screen. Take a look at the first five minutes of Preacher below, to get ready for the premiere this Sunday.
