IFC's Portlandia is back on January 21 at 8pm ET/PT. And in the very first look at Season 6 from episode three, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein go into uncharted territory...In the bedroom! Check out the (awkward) moment fans thought would never happen as they take their "platonic" relationship to a whole new level in the first clip below.

Also being unveiled today is this season's bold new key art by famed artist photographer, Tina Barney.  With a career spanning four decades, Barney recently shot the duo in her trademark style by creating a striking composition that relays an intimate visual narrative within a vibrant and opulent setting. Barney is the latest renowned artist to spearhead Portlandia's key art. Portlandia Season 4 featured work by Alex Prager and Portlandia Season 5 featured work by Catherine Opie. The below images will be seen throughout the show's season six promotional campaign.

Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen and rock 'n' roll guitarist Carrie Brownstein first cracked up audiences as the Internet sketch comedy duo ThunderAnt. They soon turned that into the absurdist series Portlandia, set in Portland, Ore. It quickly became a cult sensation, and in its sixth year, continues to gently pokes fun at the laid-back Pacific Northwest city and the many eccentric characters that call it home. Portland's actual mayor, Sam Adams, appears on the show, serving as an assistant to the fictional city leader played by guest star Kyle MacLachlan.

Platonic friends in real life, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein portray skewed versions of themselves on Portlandia, where they live as roommates. The first clip from these upcoming episodes have the two best friends finally taking it to the next level. And boy, is it as awkward as we imagined. This clothed encounter is not at all sexy. But it sure is hilarious.

The duo push their twin beds together, but before they can commit the consensual act, they first must break down their sexy game plan. This has them analyzing the best position to perform the deed. They tease a potential maneuver. And then Fred Armisen asks if he can have a magazine to read while he waits patiently for the foreplay to be over.
