Once Upon a Time star Rose McIver has landed the lead role in The CW pilot IZombie, from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas.

The pilot is based on the DC/Vertigo Comics title of the same name created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, which centers on Liv (Rose McIver), a medical student who turns into a zombie. She takes a job at the coroner's office, in order to access human brains to feed on, although Liv soon realizes that she is actually ingesting the memories of the corpses she eats. With help from her medical examiner boss and a detective named Clive (Malcolm Goodwin), she helps solve murder cases with these new abilities, to quiet the voices in her head.

We reported last month that Alexandra Krosney is playing Liv's best friend and roommate Peyton, who is confused by her strange behavior, while David Anders is portraying the villainous Blaine, a spoiled rich kid who is in way over his head in the drug trade. Robert Buckley is also co-starring as Liv's love interest.

Rob Thomas will direct the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Diane Ruggiero (Bates Motel). The writers are also serving as executive producers alongside Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge.

Rose McIver is best known for playing Tinker Bell in ABC's Once Upon a Time, and Vivian Scully in Showtime's Masters of Sex. She also signed on to star in a sequel to Lifetime's Flowers in the Attic
