Netflix has certainly expanded their slate of original content over the past few years, with one of their most celebrated additions being the hit drama series Narcos. The show was already renewed for Season 2 back in August, just a week after the show premiered, but we haven't had any confirmation about when the show will return. Earlier today, the streaming service released the first Season 2 trailer, which reveals that the second season will return on September 2.
All ten new episodes of Narcos will premiere on September 2 at 12.01am PST exclusively on Netflix. Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the infamous drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. Its gritty storytelling details the many, often-conflicting forces - legal, political, police, military and civilian - that clash in the effort to control cocaine, one of the world's most valuable commodities.
The series stars Wagner Moura (Elite Squad, Elysium) as Pablo Escobar alongside Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña. The supporting cast includes Joanna Christie as Connie Murphy, Juan Murcia as Juan Pablo Escobar, Maurice Compte as Horacia Carrillo, Paulian Gaitan as Tata Escobar, Danielle Kennedy as Ambassador Noonan and Richard T. Jones as a DEA agent. No details have been given about any new characters joining the show for Season 2 quite yet.
José Padilha (Elite Squad, RoboCop) and Eric Newman (Children of Men) serve as executive producers of the series. Season 1 showrunner Adam Fierro left the series, with Netflix making the unusual decision to not hire a new showrunner, leaving Jose Padilha and Eric Newman on board as executive producers. A rumor surfaced last month that the streaming service was eyeing an August premiere date for Season 2 of Narcos, but it seems that wasn't quite accurate.
