Muppets are finally hooking up with humans, and moms across the country don't like it! One Million Moms, which is an offshoot of the American Family Association, has decided to boycott the new ABC sitcom The Muppets in a big way. The show premieres this Tuesday. And if you didn't know that, you surely will by the end of the day. As this sort of boycott only serves as more publicity for the show. Who's not going to tune in now with the hopes of seeing pigs, and frogs, and bears fornicating with humans?

One Million Moms have issued a mission statement that claims they are attempting to stop the exploitation of children in entertainment media and elsewhere. They stand against the immorality, violence, vulgarity and profanity that entertainment media is serving to children on a daily basis. Their goal is to create a society that gives children the best possible chance of living a 'normal' life. And guess what, The Muppets new half-hour comedy is flying directly in the face of all that with its perverse and very adult humor.

From the get-go, ABC announced that this version of The Muppets would be much more adult in nature. Its tone is more outrageous and adventurous than any of the films or TV shows that have come before it. And has been preceded by stories of lead stars Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy breaking up, followed by detailed accounts of who they've been dating. In various teasers and PR releases, there have been tons of nonchalant sex jokes, drug references and the glorification of bestiality. About The Muppets, One Million Moms had this to say.

"ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined "The Muppets." How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children? Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time. 1MM and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs."

Some might think this is taking things to extremes. Others will watch the show and agree with One Million Moms. But it's really up to the parents to do the heavy lifting here, and that's to keep their children from watching the show, or finally have that conversation with them. Boycotts can be a healthy way to get a conversation started, but it's unlikely that ABC will change its show, or the nature of its content. And as we stated before, this will probably work against the cause, as it will draw in interested parties who may have written off The Muppets a long time ago.

The Muppets has never been solely for 'the kids'. There has always been adult humor weaved throughout the films and TV shows, some of it going over younger viewers heads. But the show has never been this edgy. And it's up to the viewer to decide whether or not they like that sort of thing. The show takes a look at the back stage antics of a new Muppet talk show led by Miss Piggy, and is an offshoot of The Office, filmed in the same documentary style.

The organization boycotted JC Penney not too long ago for making Ellen DeGeneres their spokesperson due to her sexual orientation. And they protested Disney Channel's original movie Good Luck Charlie because it features lesbian parents. And they took Chobani yogurt to task for having a lesbian couple in one of their commercials. The Muppets isn't the only new fall TV show they've targeted either. Fox's Lucifer was deemed unworthy for glamorizing Lord Satan.

One Million Moms has set up a phone number for people to call and voice their opinions, which you can get here. Though, they might not need much support to get the show off the air. The ABC sitcom has not been getting the best reviews, with the adult humor seemingly the least of the new series' problems. The show had some good early buzz. But the pilot has been called 'unpromising' by a number of critics. We've included a 10-minute pitch reel and the trailer to give you a little bit of a taste of what has these moms in such an uproar. You can check out the whole sin-filled first half hour when The Muppets premieres this Tuesday, September 22, at 8pm EST on ABC.
