On the heels of the lightening rod Netflix series Making a Murderer, which delves into the controversial Steven Avery case, Investigation Discovery (ID) announced today it has partnered with longtime production partner, NBC News' Emmy Award-winning Peacock Productions, to produce an exclusive Front Page special, hosted by veteran journalist and Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison. Aiming to provide viewers with critical details surrounding the case, ID began production this week on Front Page: The Steven Avery Special, slated to air in late January to better inform viewers in light of the nearly 300,000 people calling for the release of Avery. Here's what Henry S. Schleiff, Group President, Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America, had to say about the special in a statement.

"We are excited to share with viewers the latest in this compelling saga. Following our investigation, we expect that Front Page: The Steven Avery Special will present crucial testimony and information that addresses many of the questions surrounding Steven Avery."

Expanding on his reporting role with Dateline NBC, Morrison serves as host of Dateline on ID and Front Page specials. Each episode of Front Page covers a major case making headlines, within just weeks of the initial incident. These quick turn-around documentaries, or "instamentaries," feature interviews with people closely associated with the case and expert commentary from ID's roster of experts spanning criminal profiling, criminal psychology, investigative journalism, legal analysis, forensic science and police investigation.

Steven Avery is currently serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. His conviction came after he spent 18 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of sexual assault in 1985. Avery has continually maintained his innocence and alleged that he was framed by local authorities.

Since Making a Murderer debuted on December 18, a number of online petitions have surfaced, asking President Obama to pardon Steven Avery and punish the corrupt law enforcement officials that put him behind bars. Making a Murderer filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos recently revealed that a juror in the case reached out to them and said the juror believes Avery was framed and proven not guilty. Will you be tuning in to Front Page: The Steven Avery Special later this month on Investigation Discovery?
